Spain, XII century. Most part of the country is ruled by the authoritarian Almohad
Empire. The Berber-Muslim dynasty is particularly harsh on the Jewish community. In
such a climate of social control and religious persecution, Ezra Ben, a brilliant Jewish
student, and Nurennahar, a musically gifted Muslim woman, fall in love. Their decision
