Hundreds of books have been written about the popular Camino Frances pilgrimage route in the north of Spain to Santiago de Compostela, resting place of St James the Greater.
A few books have been written about the Via de la Plata – the so called Silver Route – from Seville in the south to Santiago.
Very little has been written or published about some of the less travelled routes in Europe.
Having walked the Camino Frances from Roncesvalles, Sylvia Nilsen wanted to walk the medieval route from Paris to Spain as part of research for her historical novel, “Pilgrim Footprints on the Sands of Time” a story about medieval pilgrims from England who are sent on a penitential pilgrimage to the tomb of St James the Greater in the city in Spain named after him – Sant’Iago de Compostela.
In La via Turonensis from Paris to Spain Sylvia Nilsen writes about her 1,000 kilometer walk on the Chemin de Tours or Via Turonensis, starting in Paris and walking from Orleans to Roncesvalles in Spain.
