This is a short compilation of powerful ancient Hindu prayers and mantras that can be chanted in just 5-10 minutes everyday.
Growing up in India, I saw my parents perform simple prayers to various Hindu Gods everyday. I absorbed those as part of my family culture. As I grew up and started exploring in greater depth Hinduism, I discovered many more mantras and prayers.
I found out that there are thousands of mantras and prayers from various ancient Vedic and puranic texts. There are numerous books on Hindu prayers and mantras with hundreds of pages sometimes. I collected some books over the years and with the Internet there is so much more information available online. But with many years of practice I found out that, in reality, I could only chant a few mantras and prayers everyday.
Eventually, I ended up having a collection of torn pages and printouts of the mantras and prayers that touched me deeply, which I chant daily.
I have organized this book by the amount of time you have to pray, 5 or 10 minutes; also by morning and evening. There is Hanuman Chaleesa at the end that you can add if you have more time.
In my own experience I found that it is true that we start feeling the vibrations of mantras as we chant them daily, with faith.
Some will become part of us and some will fall away. The ones whose frequency vibrates with us— our consciousness will start chanting them automatically anytime, anywhere and, as we will go deeper, even in sleep the chanting will go on.
In my journey, I found that the most effective mantras are the ones we enjoy chanting everyday. The mantras that bring out the intensity of feelings for the Divine. Whatever form ~ Durga or Vishnu or Shiva, we pray to, we should feel faith and devotion. It does not happen overnight. The faith and devotion comes if we try to understand the meaning of the prayers and also understand our own reason for praying.
In the beginning, almost everyone starts praying to gain something in this material world ~ money, success, family, health, happiness and so on. But as one keeps praying everyday with attention to the words and meaning with a little faith, a subtle transformation of the consciousness starts unfolding. Gradually, the intensity of devotion will keep increasing and one day you can find that you are praying to the Divine only for the love of Divine. The illusion of the material world holds no attraction any more. You don’t pray to gain anything in the material world. It has no value compared to the eternal bliss of Lord’s love.
Even in our busy daily lives it is possible to remember our deep love for the Divine. We just have to chant a few mantras everyday with faith.
To help you, I am sharing in this book some powerful ancient mantras that are also part of my daily puja.
All proceeds from the sale of this book will go to fund Yoga and Meditation classes for children.
