Ecce Homo is published in 1888, is the last original book written by philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche before his final years of insanity that lasted until his death in 1900.
In this work, he looks into his life as a philosopher, and offers a perpective on his previous individual works as well.
He wrote: "Under these circumstances, it is a duty—and one against which my customary reserve, and to a still greater degree the pride of my instincts, rebel— to say: Listen! For I am such and such a person. Do not mistake me for anyone else!"
About the Author
Friedrich Nietzsche (October 15, 1844–August 25, 1900) was a German philosopher who challenged the foundations of Christianity and traditional morality. His writings on truth, morality, language, aesthetics, cultural theory, history, nihilism, power, consciousness, and the meaning of existence have exerted an enormous influence on Western philosophy and intellectual history.
He was interested in the enhancement of individual and cultural health, and believed in life, creativity, power, and the realities of the world we live in, rather than those situated in a world beyond. His philosophy was one of affirming life, questioning all modes of thought and action that are geared towards wasting life's expansive energies.
Nietzsche's revitalizing philosophy has inspired leading figures in all walks of cultural life, including dancers, poets, novelists, painters, psychologists, philosophers, sociologists and social revolutionaries.
