Farsant Op. 28 (2006) is a piano version of the aria “Farsante es aquel” (“Fraud is this”), for soprano and orchestra of the opera El farsante (“The Fraud”) (2004) is a musical parody of a musicologist applicant for a place at university, which uses a farce to impress to the assistants at a conference in musicology. The music, descriptive, gives real life to the ridiculous character. The plot is based on the amazing promotion of an archivist at an university library (Torquato) that becomes immediately tenure professor with the help of a professor (Fernandez) at the same university, who organizes for that occasion a false competition to give him the opportunity to fill a faculty vacancy. Another candidate (Garces), who applies to this job, shows a much better achievements for this job than the archivist. Notwithstanding that, the job is allocated to the archivist. Garces, disappointed, decides to take revenge while a conference of music organized by the university is carrying out. Under a identity of a false professor, she presents an amazing theory about the existence of a curious instrument called "violicembalo" discrediting so that a thesis defended by the professor on the alleged disappearance of harpsichords in the royal court of Spain during the XVIIIth Century. This theory takes to confront the Fernández and Torcuato, since the last one supports the false professor, convinced that her investigations are more valid than the professor who helped him to get fraudulently the job and with who he should be in a debt.
The aria on which is based this piano in the original opera is sung by Garces, when she notices that she has been a victim of a sham and the job has been allocated to Torcuato at the end. Garces expresses her disappointment and helplessness at being the victim of a system based on corruption. Then reveals his desire for revenge.
The piece consists of three sections. In the first two themes, the first of which stands out the comic element of the situation that is describing, while the second emphasizes the ridiculous nature of the character referred to appear. The center section is the most emotional moment of the aria, in which the protagonist recognizes his deep disappointment and ingenuity.
The fingering is the pianist Albert Nieto, who also owe the premiere of the work, recorded in the Auditorium of the Conservatory of Valencia, during the month of April of 2011. This recording has been edited by La ma de Guido.
