Okay, it started with human nature, with some people having the unquenchable desire to have things that no one else has so they can strut their superiority, but that’s a discussion for another day. The popular memories spread across the entire world in a matter of days when they hit big. They went cranial. That’s what they called them when everybody had them. Cranial. Everybody wanted them uploaded into their craniums. The crazy daredevil actions. The wild sex memories of movie stars. They became so popular that everyone just had to have them. Everyone had the memory of the first Mars space flight. Everyone had the memory of the guy getting sucked up by a tornado and getting dropped harmlessly into a backyard pool. Everyone had the memory of the Indy 500 crash where the car rolled a hundred times but the driver walked away unscathed. Everyone had the memory of the archaeologist discovering a brand new city in the Florida swamplands that proved the Romans had reached the Americas centuries ago. All the popular memories were shared by everyone. Nothing was unique. No one was unique.
For most people, it was okay that everybody seemed to have the same shared memories. They had something in common they could share and talk about with their neighbors and co-workers.
