Somatic diseases that cause psychiatric symptoms particularly in the early phase should be identified since many of these diseases are curable.The first symptoms of delirium and memory diseases are often interpreted as psychiatric.Comorbidity is common: the patient may have both somatic and psychiatric problems. The knowledge of a serious disease and the limitations due to the disease predispose to mental disorders.
