In my life, I have played football, baseball, basketball, soccer, 14.1 continuous pocket billiards, and golf.
I have always thought of baseball as the best of all games: the most interesting, the most demanding, the most rewarding. I cannot begin to express the gratification I have always felt in being part of the game of baseball with such a wonderful flavor and spirit. The game I love has produced such superb champions and attractive personalities as Merkle, Jackson, Wambsganss, Evers, Stengel, Berra, Martin, Hobbs, McAvoy, and Al the Boss Angel.
I have found baseball to be a universal language wherever I traveled at home or abroad. As a columnist, author, announcer, and consultant, I have enjoyed every moment spent in baseball—above all the many wonderful friends I have made. I have loved playing baseball and covering it. Whether my schedule for the following day called for talking baseball, a professional baseball game, attending a press conference, or hosting a TV or radio show, the prospect that there was going to be baseball in my day made me feel privileged and extremely happy. I could not wait for the sun to rise so I could get to the ball park again.
When I’m not involved with baseball, I play golf.
Here are some revelations found in My Favorite All-time Great Ball Busters:
The first curse to plague the Miracle Cubs of 1908—and who made it.
The ghost that haunted the Miracle Cubs of 2016.
The person who destroyed "Shoeless Joe" Jackson’s career.
The most neglected and forgotten player in baseball’s Hall of Fame.
My Favorite All-time Great Ball Busters is my gift to the owners, coaches, umpires, players, media, and fans.
