Subtileses (“Subtleties”) is a version of Sottigliezze in blue (“Subtleties in Blue”), Op. 44, for trumpet and piano (2010), composed in December 2010. Merging in a very free and subtle way, as the title itself suggests, jazz and blues rhythms, the work shows an agile but elaborated, plenty of nuances and colours, and where the melodic line pushes a musical discourse in a very strong directional force with an intensity and expressive character strength that increases while it develops. Subtileses is structured in three parts preceded by an introduction. In a style similar to swing, the introduction joins free harmonies and an improvisational character The first theme is sensual and has an elegant and moderate character, the second one, however is more playful dynamic and extroverted. The central theme is lyrical and nostalgic. It is a work that provides an added visual element, because it makes that, by his dance style spontaneous, lively and informal, it gives the impression that the pianist is improvising and finally almost dancing led by the beat of the music, since rhythm and especially the syncopation play a prominent role.
