• Three of Jack London's books about socialism and the class system are bound together in this Kindle edition: Jack London's dystopian novel The Iron Heel, his non-fiction exposé The People of the Abyss, and the non-fiction work The War of the Classes.
The Iron Heel (1908)
In one of the earliest Dystopian novels, Jack London writes about an American oligarchic tyranny. Much of the book is set in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The People of the Abyss (1903)
The setting is East End London in the early 1900s and London researched the book by living in the East End for months, at times sleeping rough on the streets, much like some of the 500,000 impoverished Londoners during that period..
The War of the Classes (1905)
Another socialist non-fiction book. This time London examines the struggles of the working class.
About The Author
American writer John Griffith London (1876–1916) was a bestselling author and one of the few celebrity writers to make a large amount from popular novels including “The Call of the Wild” and short stories “To Build a Fire". He also wrote about the San Francisco Bay area in The Sea Wolf, another best-seller. London advocated socialism and wrote several books involving unionization and socialism including his dystopian novel The Iron Heel, his non-fiction exposé The People of the Abyss, and The War of the Classes. To prepare for his novel Call of the Wild, London spent almost year in the Yukon. It was, arguably, his greatest success.
