Tobruk, a port city in Libya, represented a strategic point of contention between Allied and Axis forces during the years from 1940-1942. Italy's inability to hold on to key areas in Libya forced Nazi dictator Adolph Hitler to send the newly organized Afrika Korps, commanded by Erwin Rommel, to preserved the Axis controlled region and others under Axis hegemony in North and East Africa. My e-book reads like a reporter's observation and summation of the conflict. It deals with military objectives and strategy but it is no way written as a military historian might write about the North Africa campaign. My resources are derived from vintage newspapers written by reporters who ventured to Tobruk, its harbor and inside the port town. These men risked their lives to provide the world with first hand accounts of the bombing and armored encounters between the British 8th Army, Rommel's Afrika Korps and Italian forces under the command of Field Marshal Rodolfo Graziani.
