The Treaty on European Union (TUE) and the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) are the main treaties of the European Union. The TEU establishes general principles of the European Union, outlines its governance (the Commission, Parliament, and Council), and gives the guidelines on external, foreign and security policy.
The TFEU, in turn, provides the detailed basis of the European law, delimiting the scope of the European Union legislative authority and providing guidelines in those areas where EU law operates.
