This research aims to explore the energy integration of South America from the perspective of the role of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) in this process. The goal is to demonstrate how this energy integration model proposed by UNASUR fits within the logic of cooperation in military unipolarity of the post-Cold War. Understanding the proposed integration of UNASUR and the central role of Brazil in the effectiveness of this model is essential to draw firm conclusions about what is the solidity of the energy integration processes in face of the unipole interests in the region. It is proposed, therefore, to reconcile a regional analysis of the energy integration processes with a broader perspective, assessing how this project is consistent with the interests of the United States in South America. The central hypothesis is that the positioning of UNASUR is not characterized as a direct affront to the unipolar power, but as the search for better international positioning of the region without direct confrontation with the unipole.
