Commander Jayne Green of the Metropolitan Police jets off to Lanzarote for a restful break with her crown prosecutor husband, Simon. However, they land amidst a terrorist alert, occasioned by an explosion at the desalinisation plant, and a mysterious message brings her face to face with an old friend from the Guardia Civil. Shortly after, she is viciously attacked by a knife wielding thug and it soon becomes clear that someone wants her dead. Jayne and Simon become embroiled in the hunt for the murderer of two local villains, one roasted alive over the volcano and the other whose mutilated body is found floating at a tourist attraction. As the action takes off and the bodies mount up they encounter the seamy side of a people smuggling racket and the truth about a family death is revealed. Their stay on the island is anything but a peaceful vacation and tragedy strikes just as they are due to return to the UK. Jayne finally discovers that revenge is both sweet and just.
